Volunteering
Would you like more information on being a volunteer during SRI? The community of volunteers is a valuable resource for the smooth running of the Summer Research Institute. Room set-up, session bell ringers, and poster room guides are some of the opportunities. More information as well as a sign-up sheet will be sent to those interested.

Please note that the four story Garrison Institute building does not have elevator access to higher or lower levels. Only one ADA compliant accommodation is available at Garrison. Do you have any food allergies, medical allergies, or conditions that would be critical to know in an emergency? All information is kept confidential except as needed in an emergency, except for food allergies that will be shared with providers.
 
NOTE: All meals are served buffet-style in the dining hall and are vegetarian, with the exception of one meal that will include a fish option. Most special dietary needs should be met from what is offered. If you need to bring your own food, there is a refrigerator and storage space available in the service kitchen.

This event involves various activities including movement opportunities, group transportation, public gatherings, and meals during a time that COVID-19 may be a factor. NOTE: There are no locks on the bedroom doors at the Garrison Institute, so plan accordingly if you intend to bring valuable items with you.
Private Online Platform Access
Mind & Life provides access to an online platform for SRI participants, where you can access archived recordings of event sessions, supplemental information and links, and online discussion forums with other participants. If you elect to participate in the online platform, an account will be created for you and you will be sent login information in the weeks leading up to the start of the event. Your name along with any photographs or additional biographical information you choose to share will be visible to other platform participants. Participation on the online platform is voluntary, but encouraged.

Accommodations & Rooming

As a historic property, accommodations at Garrison are modest (twin/single beds) with no air-conditioning. Transom windows, located above the doors, can be opened, allowing for air flow as needed. See photos of rooms here

Gender Inclusive Accommodations: The Garrison Institute was designed for communal living, as such, attendees should expect shared rooming (up to two individuals per room). In making rooming assignments, your gender identity/expression and comments provided by you in the Rooming Requests field will be taken into consideration.

Note that each floor has communal bathrooms that include individual private shower stalls. Separate bathrooms will be designated as binary (women, men) and nonbinary/gender neutral (all are welcome who are comfortable). Mind & Life supports an inclusive environment and encourages attendees to choose bathrooms that are comfortable for them based on how they identify.
