All worthy causes need two things: champions and stamina. The Mind & Life Institute has been fortunate in both regards to be supported throughout its history by an exceptional group of committed benefactors. To continue our transformative mission, we greatly appreciate financial support at all levels.

As you plan your gift, you may want to consider the following giving levels:

FRIENDS give up to $999 annually in support of the Institute. Friends are recognized in the annual report and receive monthly eNews and other updates.

PARTNERS give between $1,000 and $10,000 annually. In addition to the above benefits, Partners are recognized in our event programs throughout the year.

MAJOR SPONSORS give between $10,000 and $30,000 annually. In addition to the above benefits, Sponsors receive special invitations to selected Mind and Life public and private events.

SUSTAINING PATRONS ensure the long-range viability of the Mind & Life Institute, and are honored financial partners and members of our Mind and Life family. With a commitment to give $30,000 or more per year for a minimum of three years, Sustaining Patrons affirm their dedication to the important work of the Institute, keep us on a stable footing, and enable us to plan both current and future scientific investigations with confidence. In appreciation of their deep commitment to the Institute, Sustaining Patrons are entitled to participate in:

  1. Private Mind and Life dialogues with the Dalai Lama at his home in Dharamsala, or elsewhere in the world.
  2. Private, pre-meetings that precede each Mind and Life Dialogue. These are two-day meetings held several months before the main meeting, where all the presenting scientists come together with the interpreters and staff to coordinate and refine their presentations and review the questions that will be presented and discussed at the meeting with the Dalai Lama. These pre-meetings are an excellent way to immerse in the subject matter and meet the experts who will be participating in the Dialogue.
  3. The annual Mind and Life Summer Research Institute, a weeklong residential program during which scientists and contemplative practitioners review the latest research and consider ways to advance contemplative studies.
  4. The Dalai Lama’s public talks sponsored by the Institute.

PLANNED GIVING creates a lasting legacy of support for Mind and Life’s mission while allowing donors to receive a financial benefit during their lifetimes. Planned gifts include donations of appreciated assets such as stock, gifts through various forms of trust or annuity that provide living benefits to the giver, or various forms of bequeath. A planned gift can retain income and defer, reduce, or eliminate capital gains taxes, generate a charitable income tax deduction, and reduce or eliminate estate, gift, or generation-skipping taxes. Planned givers are also recognized in Mind & Life Institute publications.
