Mind & Life is committed to supporting research on the impact of contemplative practices in educational settings. We believe that mental training exercises (e.g., mindfulness, lovingkindness, introspection, yoga) can be adapted and implemented in careful ways across educational settings, from preK–12 to higher education. Rigorous research is needed to determine if such awareness-based practices may have benefit for an individual’s well-being, health, and social relationships.

Our funding initiatives over the years have enabled a number of contemplative education research studies. Previous support has come from the Mind & Life 1440 Grants, as well as the Varela Grants.

We look forward to continuing to support this important area of research to determine whether, how, and for whom such targeted mental contemplative training can have beneficial effects in educational settings.
