Title: Outreach Intern

Dates: Academic Year, Summer

Schedule: 10hrs/week during the Academic Year; up to 20hrs/week over Summer

Supervisor: Senior Manager for Diversity, Inclusion & Global Outreach

Internship Overview:

Historically, the field of contemplative science has been dominated by a select, and largely racially and ethnically homogenous group of scientists, scholars, and practitioners; and just a handful of institutions.  To address this disparity, the Mind & Life Institute has made the commitment to being an incubator and leader of initiatives to increase diversity and inclusion in the field of Contemplative Science and to widen its scope geographically to include individuals and institutions outside of North America and Europe.  This work includes the development of the Advisory Council for Diversity and Inclusion and securing funding for the proliferation of Mind & Life programming in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.  Interns may earn academic credit or a stipend for their service.

The Outreach intern can expect to support the work of the Senior Manager for Diversity, Inclusion & Global Outreach including:

  • Developing and implementing the Strategic Plan for Diversity & Inclusion;
  • Providing training and consultation for Mind & Life staff, board, Fellows and other key stakeholders;
  • Coordination of student internship program; and
  • Cultivating relationships to support the development, implementation and evaluation of global program initiatives including International Research Institutes and Think Tanks.

Important/Critical Activities:

  • Assist with creating organizational infrastructure to support Advisory Council for Diversity & Inclusion
  • Assist with researching Diversity & Inclusion related best practices and metrics;
  • Help to organize and standardize document templates and complete administrative tasks such as drafting letters and creating contact lists
  • Assist with compiling logistical reports for various programs
  • Community building and researching persons of interest for inclusion in future projects and programs
  • Aggregate and compile data to be loaded into database

  • Form professional connections and learn from the dynamic Mind & Life staff and its global community of scholars, scientists and contemplatives
  • Explore contemplative practice for personal and professional development

Qualifications:

  • Excellent organizational and computer skills and attention to detail
  • Experience working in Google Drive platform preferred
  • Interest in contemplative science/research preferred
  • A mature sensitivity to working with people of diverse identities and backgrounds
  • Interest in outreach in underrepresented and international communities
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Ability to problem-solve, multitask, and work independently
