Position Summary:

Director for Equity, Diversity & Inclusion is an executive position within the Mind & Life Institute (Mind & Life) and is a member of the Mind & Life senior leadership team.  This is a matrixed position that works across departments and programs. This position leads the development and implementation of innovative and practical processes and systems to foster equity, diversity, inclusion, and multi-cultural sensitivity throughout organizational operations, programs, and communications.

  • Ensure equity, diversity & inclusion are well integrated and articulated in the development and evaluation of external programs. Includes participating as ex officio member on Program Planning Committees.
  • Co-chair for the Council for Equity, Diversity & Inclusion: coordinate meetings and reports, and effectively engage its members
  • Lead trainings on equity, diversity, inclusion and cultural humility for staff, board and other organizational constituents
  • Serve as resources for HR staff and hiring committees to support diverse applicant pools and best practices for hiring staff and interns
  • Collaborate, strategize and serve as resource for the Philanthropy team on matters of equity, diversity, and inclusion with regard to fundraising
  • Develop and maintain systems to track metrics and qualitative data for evaluating organizational progress and areas for improvement related to equity, diversity and inclusion
  • Participates in and actively contributes to senior-level interdepartmental strategic and operations meetings and discussions

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree; advanced degree preferred. Ideally, formal professional or academic training in social identity, bias, and diversity studies
  • 5+ years of professional experience in administrative and training roles related to social identity, bias, equity, diversity and inclusion
  • 2+ years of experience leading equity, diversity & inclusion initiatives in non-profit or academic setting
  • Proven experience with multi-cultural sensitivity, ideally in all areas of equity, diversity and inclusion, nationally and internationally
  • Professional and personal commitment to equity, diversity & inclusion
  • Proven experience in group facilitation
  • Strong commitment to organizational mission of the Mind & Life Institute
  • Experience/familiarity with contemplative practices and/or contemplative sciences preferred
  • Prior HR experience is preferred
  • Executive leadership coursework or certification preferred
